The announcement of the nominees for BONUKS 2014

All nominees for the Latgalian Culture Award “Bonuks 2014” in 16 nominations within the sections of community and culture, music and literature are announced. “Bonuks” is the only prize that highlights and honors the achievements in the culture life of Latgalians. The award winners will be announced during the ceremony that will take place in the Embassy of Latgale GORS on February 22, 2015.

The goal of the Latgalian Culture Award “Bonuks” is to promote the preservation and development of the culture environment of Latgalians, as well as to gather and honor the most significant achievements of Latgalian culture of the last year. This year 180 applications were received with the total number reaching 130 people, events, and activities to be honored. From the total amount of the applications, nominees that met the regulations of the prize were selected. According to the amount of applications, it was decided to combine the nominations of the literature section (“Best Performance in Poetry”, “Best Performance in Prose” and “Debut of the Year”) in one nomination – “Best Performance in Literature”. Currently 16 nominees from 18 categories are announced. The nominees of the prizes “for Lifetime Achievement in Development of Latgalian Culture” and “Radio Hit” will be announced closer to the date of the ceremony.

The members of jury of the Award of Latgalian Culture “Boņuks 2014” are award winners of the last year: musician and teacher Guntra Kuzmina, film director Edgars Blinovs, the owner of “Ausmeņa Kebabs” Ltd Valters Murāns, DJ Monsta, the participant of the music band “Bez PVN” Guntis Rasims, poetess Ineta Atpile-Jugane, poetess Anna Rancāne, journalist Daira Kokoreviča, literature researcher and the host of television broadcasts Valentīns Lukaševičs, researcher Ilga Šuplinska, litterateur and musician Oskars Orlovs, composer Ilona Rupaine, musician Biruta Ozoliņa, musician Romāns Sladzis, musician Aldis Kise, supporter of Latgalian culture Jānis Blaževičs, choreographer Inga Drele, the Head of the Embassy of Latgale GORS Diāna Zirniņa and TV producer Sandra Freiberga.

The award ceremony will be held at 16.00 February 22, 2015 in the Big Hall of the Embassy of Latgale GORS. The performance “Francis” dedicated to the significant political leader Francis Trasuns will be presented as the first part of the ceremony. During the second part of the event significant events, people and activities of Latgalian culture in 2014 will be honored. All the nominees, jury members, the representative of media, and anyone interested in Latgalian culture are welcome to attend the ceremony.
